My Story

Osteopathic Practitioner, former athlete, adventure addict and lover of all things science.

What is osteopathY?

Osteopathy is a holistic manual practice that is founded on the philosophy that the body a dynamic unit of function, it is self-healing and self-regulating, and your structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.  Diagnosis and treatment are both done via manual palpation/movement and are dictated by the motion capability of the tissues and joints collectively.

What people say?

I've been seeing Melissa for a few months now and she is fantastic. The reason for my last visit was that my left foot was tensing up every time I was going down the stairs and the cramping was painful. After one session with Melissa, my foot was fine and I've been pain free since then. Thank you so much Melissa!!

Melissa worked miracles on my elbow after months of difficulty using it for various sports. Her techniques were spot on in getting quick results and the sessions were so so relaxing. I highly recommend her as she is a great listener and truly cares.

You have questions! We have answers:

Frequency of treatment varies person to person and is more easily determined during the initial appointment as it case specific.  Because this practice aims to facilitate the body’s natural healing capabilities, the body will be continuing to heal and right itself back to normal even in the days outside of treatment.  Some consistency is required in the beginning, but the goal is to eliminate dependence on treatment and get the patient to a place where they are functional and do not require external intervention.

Osteopaths use manual therapy to facilitate the natural healing capabilities of the body, strengthen the overall framework, and provide stability within all systems of the body.  The body is self healing and self regulating, and your structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.  We use manual techniques to adjust the skeletal framework, remove obstruction to the skin, muscles and fascia connecting all of it, to allow for proper blood supply and nerve supply to all parts.  When this is accomplished, the body is then able to heal itself.

Osteopathy helps with anything related to the anatomy and physiology of the body.  It is the understanding that structure and function are interrelated, and when all parts are moving as they should, we have harmony within the body.  The question should really be “What does Osteopathy NOT help with”.  This would be a much shorter list of things, but something that we could differentiate right away and guide you to the appropriate person do deal with it.

As a member of the Alberta Osteopathic Association (AOA), my services are covered under benefit plans that include Osteopathy.  Please check with your provider to confirm this prior to treatment.
